Emperors in the New World (OP-09): Cards, Rarities and Prices, French vs English

Emperors in the New World, the first One Piece Card Game booster released in French on February 7, 2025: how many cards, which Leaders, which rarities, and what the gold Roger and the Super Alt-Arts are worth in French and in English.

Emperors in the New World (code OP-09), called Les Nouveaux Empereurs in the French edition, is the first One Piece Card Game booster released in French, on February 7, 2025, together with the six Starter Decks ST-15 to ST-20. According to Bandai, the set has 130 card types plus 1 DON!! card, and 159 different artworks once you count the parallel versions. Its most expensive card is the gold Super Alt-Art of Gol D. Roger (OP09-118): €6,738 on the PokéItem index in French, as of October 23, 2026. Prices are given for French and English copies, so you can value your English cards too.

Why the French One Piece Card Game Starts at OP-09

Bandai announced the French edition on August 30, 2024: it would launch "in early 2025 with the OP-09 booster -LES NOUVEAUX EMPEREURS- and the six Starter Decks ST-15 to ST-20". The release came on February 7, 2025, followed on February 28 by the PREMIUM BOOSTER -ONE PIECE CARD THE BEST- [PRB-01], which gathers popular cards from earlier sets.

This schedule has two consequences for a collector of French cards:

  • The French collection starts at OP-09. The OP-01 (Romance Dawn) to OP-08 (Two Legends) boosters came out in Japanese and English before the French edition arrived. Their best-known cards come back in French through other routes: the PRB-01, and the SP cards slipped into recent boosters.
  • The numbering is worldwide. An OP09-118 card has the same number in French, English and Japanese. That's what lets you compare the value of the same card directly from one language to another.

Six Starter Decks came out the same day, one per color: Red Edward Newgate (ST-15), Green Uta (ST-16), Blue Donquixote Doflamingo (ST-17), Purple Monkey D. Luffy (ST-18), Black Smoker (ST-19) and Yellow Charlotte Katakuri (ST-20).

How Many Cards Are in OP-09?

Depending on the site, you'll read 119, 126, 130 or 159 cards. All four figures are right, they simply don't count the same thing:

  • 119: the numbers of the main list, from OP09-001 to OP09-119;
  • 130 + 1: Bandai's official count, which adds the 10 SP cards and the Treasure Rare to the 119 numbers, plus the DON!! card;
  • 159: the number of different artworks in the official card list, once every parallel version is counted.

Here is the official breakdown by rarity:

RarityCards
Leader (L)6
Common (C)45
Uncommon (UC)30
Rare (R)26
Super Rare (SR)10
Secret Rare (SEC)2
SP card10
Treasure Rare (TR)1
DON!! card1

And the step from 130 to 159 artworks: 119 base cards, plus 25 parallel versions (the 6 Leaders, 7 Rares and 12 Super Rares), plus 4 alternate versions of the two Secret Rares, plus the 10 SPs and the Treasure Rare. For a complete "master set", you need 159 cards, not counting the DON!!.

Each Leader also comes in a parallel version (Alt-Art). The ones for the four Emperors use scenes from the manga: according to Bandai, they are the first new Alt-Art Leader cards since Awakening of the New Era (OP-05). Lim and Nico Robin make their very first appearance as Leaders.

A note on names if you're looking for your cards: the French names follow the French translation of the manga. On the French card, Buggy is called Baggy, Benn.Beckman becomes Ben Beckmann, and Donquixote is spelled Don Quijote.

Alt-Art, Super Alt-Art, SP, Treasure Rare: The Rarities to Know

A collector coming from the Pokémon TCG has to change one habit: in the One Piece Card Game, value doesn't follow the card number, it follows the version. A base Secret Rare trades for a few euros, the same card as a Super Alt-Art for several thousand.

  • Parallel version (Alt-Art): same number and same effect as the base card, with an alternate illustration. OP-09 has 25 of them, plus 4 for the Secret Rares.
  • Super Alt-Art (Super Parallèle in French, often called a "manga rare" by players): the rarest version, set against manga pages. For the first time, Bandai put four in a single set, one per Emperor: Shanks (OP09-004), Buggy (OP09-051), Marshall D. Teach (OP09-093) and Monkey D. Luffy (OP09-119). The fifth is the gold Super Alt-Art of Gol D. Roger (OP09-118), with a gold foil finish.
  • SP card: a special version with a different artwork, which can reprint a card from another set. OP-09 has 10: four with a WANTED poster design (Shanks, Buggy and Marshall D. Teach from OP-09, plus the Monkey D. Luffy OP05-119) and six with a luxurious gold design (Donquixote Rosinante OP04-119, Zoro-Juurou OP05-067, Rob Lucci OP05-093, Monkey D. Dragon OP07-015, Boa Hancock OP07-051 and Nami OP08-106).
  • Treasure Rare: only one in the set, Sanji OP06-119, a card from Wings of the Captain reprinted in a special version. It is exclusive to the French edition: in English, the OP-09 Treasure Rare is a different card, Zoro-Juurou (ST18-004).
  • Secret Rare: Gol D. Roger (OP09-118) and Monkey D. Luffy (OP09-119), each in three versions: base, Alt-Art and Super Alt-Art.

Its effect is one of the most famous in the game: when your opponent activates a "Blocker", if either you or your opponent has no cards left in Life, you win the game. In its gold version, it's the most expensive card in the set, in French as in English.

Three lessons from these figures:

1. French cards are worth neither more nor less than English ones: it depends on the card. On the date of the price check, the Marshall D. Teach Super Alt-Art and the gold Roger are valued higher in French than in English, and the Shanks and Buggy Super Alt-Arts clearly lower. Each language has its own market, and each card follows its own demand there. Before you sell or buy, compare both languages rather than assuming a fixed gap.

2. These are markets of a handful of copies. On October 23, fewer than twenty copies of the gold Roger, all languages combined, were listed on Cardmarket. With so few copies, a single sale or a single listing moves the value: the French Shanks Super Alt-Art went from about €1,900 in early September to €1,000 today. For these cards, read a value as a dated order of magnitude, not as a guaranteed price.

3. Base versions are worth very little. The base Shanks Leader trades for a few cents, the base Luffy Secret Rare for around €4. Opening a booster hoping for "a SEC" isn't enough: the version is what makes the value.

Shanks SP card WANTED poster version OP09-004 from the One Piece set Emperors in the New WorldSanji Treasure Rare OP06-119 from the One Piece set Emperors in the New World, French edition

The SP WANTED cards and the Treasure Rare are the right compromise for a collector who wants a rare OP-09 card without aiming at a thousand euros. The Shanks WANTED uses the character's wanted poster; the Sanji Treasure Rare is the only card of this rarity in the set and exists only in the French edition, at €395.

Twenty months after release, the French OP-09 booster box is mostly found on the secondary market. On October 23, 2026, the lowest offer on Cardmarket was €319 for a sealed French booster box (Les Nouveaux Empereurs), and about €6 for a single booster pack.

Open Booster Packs or Buy Singles?

For a specific card, buying the single is still the shortest path. Bandai doesn't publish pull rates for Super Alt-Arts, and community estimates vary from one count to the next. They're the rarest cards in the booster, and nothing guarantees you'll find one in a box. At €319 a box, opening to "pull the Roger" is like buying a lottery ticket.

The booster box still makes sense for two profiles: the player who wants the Leaders and Super Rares to build decks, and the collector who enjoys opening and accepts that the value of the cards pulled varies a lot from one box to another. For the centerpieces (Super Alt-Arts, Treasure Rare, SP WANTED), compare French and English offers, check the stated condition and the seller's reputation, and ask for photos of the front and back for a card worth several hundred euros.

Track Your OP-09 Collection in PokéItem

PokéItem, the French card collection app, tracks the One Piece Card Game in French, English and Japanese, with the Premium+ subscription. The OP-09 set appears under its French name, and each card is valued on the market of its own language, with a fallback price when that language doesn't have its own price yet.

  • Each version has its own line. The base card, the Alt-Art, the Super Alt-Art and the SP of the same number are kept apart, in the binder as in the scanner. The MasterSet view counts one tile per version: it's the one that tells you how many of the 159 artworks you're missing.
  • The scanner recognizes One Piece cards just like Pokémon cards: one photo is enough to add a card to your binder.
  • Two prices per card: the lowest Near Mint offer on Cardmarket in the card's language, and the PokéItem index, updated every 24 hours. The method is published on the page How PokéItem estimates a card's price.
  • One collection for two games: the selector in the header switches between Pokémon and One Piece, and you track the total value game by game.

The arrival of One Piece in the app is covered in the article PokéItem 1.2.1: One Piece Card Game and Quests Arrive. The app is available on iOS, Android and at app.pokeitem.fr.

One Piece OP-09 Emperors in the New World FAQ

When was the One Piece Card Game released in French?

The One Piece Card Game was released in French on February 7, 2025, with the OP-09 booster Emperors in the New World (Les Nouveaux Empereurs in French) and the six Starter Decks ST-15 to ST-20. The premium booster One Piece Card The Best (PRB-01) followed on February 28, 2025.

How many cards are in the OP-09 Emperors in the New World set?

Bandai lists 130 card types plus 1 DON!! card: 6 Leaders, 45 Commons, 30 Uncommons, 26 Rares, 10 Super Rares, 2 Secret Rares, 10 SP cards and 1 Treasure Rare. The main list runs from OP09-001 to OP09-119, and there are 159 different artworks with the parallel versions.

What is the most expensive OP-09 card?

The gold Super Alt-Art of Gol D. Roger (OP09-118) is the most expensive card in the set. On October 23, 2026, its PokéItem index was €6,738 in French and €6,298 in English, for an ungraded Near Mint copy. Next come the Super Alt-Arts of Marshall D. Teach, Shanks and Buggy, between €995 and €2,233 in French; the Monkey D. Luffy one, with no French index yet, is worth €2,801 in English.

What is the difference between an Alt-Art, a Super Alt-Art and an SP card?

An Alt-Art (parallel) reprints a card from the set with an alternate illustration, same number and same effect. The Super Alt-Art is the rarest version, set against manga pages; OP-09 has five, including the gold Roger. An SP card is a special version with a different design, which can come from another set: in OP-09, the WANTED posters and six cards with a gold design.

Who are the Leaders in the OP-09 set?

The six Leaders are Shanks (Red), Lim (Green/Purple), Buggy (Blue), Monkey D. Luffy (Purple/Black), Nico Robin (Purple/Yellow) and Marshall D. Teach (Black). Each one comes in a base version and a parallel version.

Are French One Piece cards worth more than English ones?

It depends on the card. In OP-09, the gold Roger and the Marshall D. Teach Super Alt-Art are valued higher in French than in English, while the Shanks and Buggy Super Alt-Arts are worth less in French. Each language has its own market, so you need to compare card by card.

Which app can you use to manage a French One Piece collection?

PokéItem tracks the One Piece Card Game in French, English and Japanese with the Premium+ subscription: catalog by language, scanner, binder, sealed products and values in euros updated every 24 hours. Each version of a card (base, Alt-Art, Super Alt-Art, SP) is tracked separately, and the same app also manages a Pokémon collection.

What Comes After OP-09?

Emperors in the New World opens the French collection. The PRB-01 The Best came out three weeks later, then Royal Blood (OP-10) on April 25, 2025 and A Fist of Divine Speed (OP-11) on June 20, 2025.
